Olbrich Botanical Gardens
My newest addition to the "benched" project. Feel free to scroll through them so far on Flickr ~ just click on the photo. This project may take a while...years...but I intend to publish a bench book. And while it may be just for me, it's my goal. :-)

10-52/2012 "True friends will shoot with you anywhere"
FOLDER 52
March ~ week 10
I shot a lot this week...between a model/lighting event with our photography group, and chasing the aurora borealis all over Door County, WI, my camera has been busy. As a result, I have captured some AMAZING star images, night shots, model shots...candids.
However, this week's shot-of-the-week isn't any of those...and it's not really my best work. ...but it's by far my favorite image. This photo was taken at Chaudoir's Dock in Brussels, WI as we searched for the Northern Lights. In spite of a no-show on Mother Nature's part, my dear friends and I created an adventure worthy of documenting. In this image, I am painting with light to show Shawn, Gary and Kathy hard at work.
I love these talents photographers.
They have passion equal to mine.
And they get me.
...and, of course, they have a spot of honor in folder 52.

oh, BABY!
FOLDER 52
February/March ~ week 9
This is Jenni...I have known her since she was about 10. A unique and gifted child, she has grown up to be a beautiful woman, loving wife...and not doubt, she will be an amazing mother. I am so proud to consider her one of my 'daughters' (and I can't WAIT to photograph baby Madeline!).
I am thrilled to file this happy image of Jenni (and baby Madeline) in folder 52.

Gills Rock, WI
I almost missed including this shot from my trip to Door County. The area was blasted with an ice storm, and this amazingly thick blanket of ice lasted only a few days (considering our very warm winter).
The Shedd Aquarium ~ JELLIES!!
This little guy...about the size of a US 50 cent piece...swims (er, scoots) VERY fast, and I was struggling to capture him with my DSLR camera. Out came the cell phone...and here he is.
the BEAN!
Marilyn
A trip to Chicago means a visit with the gyn-oncologist...and an Adventure in the City. After battling serious anxiety demons prior to my ride through the CAT scan "donut", the news [again] was fabulous and the celebration began!
I chose this photo of Marilyn on Michigan Avenue as my Photo of the Week for many reasons, but the simplest and most significant reason is how moved I was by the child-like joy in her face. Sometimes in the concrete, bustle and cold of the city, our sense of play is lost. After great news from the doctor, the grin within my body was almost as big as hers...
We traveled to Chicago with our two oldest daughters. Since there is no significant lighting on this giant statue, Alyssa, who is herself a photographer, held my SB600 off-camera to my left to create depth and to light Marilyn's face...(sorta like working with a 26ft tall model!).
The Old DeSoto
A winter weekend get-away in a traditionally summer vacation spot would not be most people's first choice. Yet beauty was everywhere!
This image is significant to me for two reasons: 1) This old De Soto begged to be recognized, and 2) my dear, dear friends Kathy and Jill drove me all over Door County...happily stopping and waiting in a warm, idling car as I ran into the chill like a kid to capture the stunning winter scenes (Jill grinned at me as we drove past this old car the first time. She looked at me and said, "should we go back?" No answer was needed...).
Sunsets never get old...
I caught this amazing sunset from my living room window, and the next thing I knew, I was in my car with camera in hand racing to the river. I captured this image (and about 6 others) before it all disappeared...
Rudy's Lunch ~ Brillion, WI
...and at the end of our day, the tired ninjas stopped at a roadway diner for some good home cooking!!
St. Ambrose Church ~ St. Nazianz, WI
In February, the photo-ninjas who are my friends Kathy, Gary and Shawn...made the trek with me to this abandon and crumbling church...lots of emotion here. The juxtaposition of the stained glass beauty with the peeling paint speaks volumes...
Sister Bay, WI
On a weekend trip with my very dear girlfriends, I remember and thank them for the world in me which did not exist before we met...<3

Red
I know he's not a "human being", but he is a fur-person, and he is a member of our family. When I retired (due to medical issues), my crazy corporate life came to a screeching halt. Enter Red and his shelter sister Olivia, bringing our home total to 3 when you add Cleo (our 10 year old calico). These unconditionally loving creatures have inspired me in many ways, teaching me to cherish the mundane and embrace the quiet. (Oh, and to stop and smell the cat-nip!)
This boy is a true red-head, freckles and all...
Have you met Kathy?
Kathy and I connected as members of a local photography group. I was drawn to her positivity, warmth and genuine desire to share, learn and grow as a photographer and as a human being. She gets a spot of honor in my "special human beings" folder.
Discarding an old Treasure ~ Appleton, WI
I went on a 'city walk' with 2 other photographer friends, and we happened upon this gorgeous (but tattered) old sofa, begging to be photographed...
Looking up ~ Appleton, WI
During the Appleton photog city-walk, you'd find yourself looking up for anything that triggers that artistic eye. This pink building and it's windows were a delightful catch in an old back alley...
Cato Falls ~ Manitowoc, WI
I went to Cato Fall (near Manitowoc, WI) with a friend on a balmy 39° day. The river was partially frozen yet part of the falls are still visible in the background. This place is so serene...
Anderson Dock art studio ~ Door County, WI
Shot this stunning building on an VERY brisk day during a photo-group outing. In spite of the temps, we had a blast...
Drawbridge ~ Sturgeon Bay, WI
On a photo-adventure with some amazing fellow photographers, we caught 2 ships passing under the drawbridges of Sturgeon Bay, WI. Most of the cars in this shot were empty as occupants scrambled for a better view of the gigantic ships!

FOLDER 52
January ~ week 3
After years in corporate America, I now have the gift of time to explore my passions! I create silver jewelry from a recycled silver molding product that -- when fired -- results in 99% pure silver pieces (a small sampling is seen in the background). My soul is in a 'zen' space when I work, and find the whole creation process peaceful and rejuvenating. This is my studio. OK, it's an upstairs bedroom, but it's where my artistic side can dance...
I shot this in a completely dark room lit only by my task light.

January ~ week 2
This is my nephew, Austen, who has been helping me for MONTHS to hone my photography skills in the studio. He has posed for hours and not complained...this shot was almost 100% his idea (can you tell he's not shy??). I respectfully file this in FOLDER 52 for week #2.
1/52-2012 Resolutions ~ Kimberly, WI
FOLDER 52
January ~ week 1
For 20 years, I made a great career out of helping people lose weight and get healthy. And I still hit the Y every morning, 5 days per week. But for many, January is a new beginning--a time to get fit and lose weight.
I left the tilt in the shot, because many off-balance people drag themselves here. Kicking and screaming. And more often than not, they (sadly) drop out by February...
folder 52
Inspired by fellow photographers (with talent reaching FAR beyond mine) who have embarked on 1-photo-per-day "365 projects", I am dedicating myself to a year-long, abbreviated project to shoot AT LEAST one meaningful image every week for 52 weeks, documenting the journey through 2012. My goal with this project is to develop as a photographer, to grow with a camera in my hand, and to capture the detail, emotion...and the gift of life.
I am calling this adventure "FOLDER 52".
